Hi, I'm Yağmur, an agricultural engineer with a PhD in animal breeding and genetics.
I started my poultry journey in 2012, by developing a piece of software about broiler breeders. In 2014, I joined Aviagen as a Technical Manager. Poultry changed my life: I travelled the world, I trained people in every topic you can imagine, from breeder and broiler management to the hatchery, feed, ventilation and the slaughterhouse, and I met, trained, befriended and worked with amazing people. I learned a lot from them.
Why this site
Now it's time to give back. Moving from farm to farm, I tell people the same things, again and again, and a lot gets lost between what one person says and what the other remembers. So I thought I could make each explanation once, as a video and as an article, fact-checked and ready to share as a link.
It's my own collection of knowledge, open to anyone who wants to grow in the poultry business: farm managers, hatchery and integrator staff, technical advisors and students.
How the articles are made
- Every article is the written version of one of my videos, made from the same script. I review and approve each script before it is recorded.
- The facts and figures come from published sources: poultry science textbooks, peer-reviewed papers, and the breeding and vaccine companies' public guides. They are numbered in the text and listed at the end, so you can check them yourself.
- No employer material: no farm data, photos or documents from my former or current employers. Examples are general, never a specific farm or incident.
- Health is covered from the management side. I'm not a veterinarian: confirmation and treatment decisions belong to your veterinarian and the lab.
- The videos are narrated with a synthetic voice modeled on my own voice. Some realistic pictures are AI-generated illustrations; they are marked "Illustration" and are not photos from a real farm or hatchery.
No catch
This website and my YouTube channel are not monetized and not sponsored. I thought about it, and it's just not worth the hassle. If I talk about a product, it's because I've used it.
I'm agnostic to brands and breeds, although with my Aviagen background, I tend to see many technical things their way. What I say here is my own view, and it may or may not line up with how my former and current employers do business.
